Why Developing Influence Is the Smartest Investment You’ll Ever Make
When I wrote The Human Demi-Gods, I wanted to show people that influence is not about fame. It’s about credibility. The kind of credibility that makes people listen, not because they have to, but because they want to.
For years, power was defined by position or wealth. Today, it’s defined by influence — the ability to inspire, guide and connect. The most powerful people aren’t those with the biggest platforms, but those with the strongest sense of purpose.
In the book, I wrote, “Influence is a skill. Like any skill, it can be studied, practised and perfected.” That idea came from observing how successful creators, entrepreneurs and leaders all share one thing in common — they make people feel something. Influence is emotional before it’s intellectual.
The truth is, developing influence is the smartest investment you’ll ever make. Because when people trust your words, your work and your intent, everything you do gains momentum. Influence turns opportunity into impact.
That’s why I created the Influence Development Programme (IDP) — a framework for building influence intentionally. In the book, I wrote, “When you build influence with purpose, you stop chasing attention and start commanding respect.” The IDP helps individuals build the habits and mindset that make influence sustainable.
It’s based on the Six Pillars of Influence Mastery — Authenticity, Consistency, Value, Impact, Community and Personal Branding.
- Authenticity: Influence begins when you stop performing and start showing up as yourself.
- Consistency: Familiarity breeds reliability; reliability builds trust.
- Value: Every interaction should give something meaningful — insight, clarity or courage.
- Impact: It’s not about how many see you; it’s about how many remember you.
- Community: You don’t just build followers; you build belonging.
- Personal Branding: You are the message. Your tone, energy and ethics shape your reputation long before your title does.
When you practise these principles, influence becomes an outcome of who you are — not what you chase. The more aligned your intent and action are, the stronger your credibility becomes.
Think of people like Jay Shetty or Ankur Warikoo. Their growth didn’t come from gimmicks; it came from clarity, honesty and effort. That’s what real influence looks like — purpose expressed consistently.
As I wrote in the book, “Influence doesn’t end when attention fades; it begins when trust is earned.” That’s the kind of influence that compounds — in your career, your relationships and your legacy.
So if you’ve ever wondered where to start, start small. Speak your truth clearly. Show up with sincerity. Influence begins in conversations, not campaigns.
Once you learn to use your voice with purpose, you’ll discover that the most powerful form of influence isn’t about being known — it’s about being remembered.
